"All trail-access decisions are political decisions"

The Trail Political Action Committee (TPAC) was founded as the first national non-partisan political action committee dedicated solely to championing responsible off-highway vehicle recreation on designated roads, trails, and areas on public lands through the electoral and legislative processes.
*
The TPAC tactical goal is to target key races using state-of-the art real-time analysis where there is a tough election and the pro-access candidate needs some extra support to help to defeat their opponent.
*
TPAC is needed to counter the anti-access special interests in Washington DC who have long ago figured that contributing to closure-oriented politicians is how they will accomplish their goal of restricting OHV access on federal lands.
*
TPAC is ready to stand in that political breach to stop the flow of anti-access politicians into the Capital. TPAC will work hard to reverse that trend so that pro-access legislators will exist as the majority in Congress and the White House.

Thompson and Koster Named Today as Key Races

With just 39 days until Election Day, TPAC is proud to announce  Tommy Thompson for Senate (WI)  as our 7th targeted key Senate race.  Former Wisconsin Governor Tommy Thompson is in a very tight race against Tammy Baldwin.
Thompson understands OHV and OSV issues and supports responsible motorized recreation on public and private lands. On the other hand, Baldwin is anti-OHV and supports the excessive regulatory agenda of far-left environmental groups.  She is not main stream on our issues.
John Koster for Congress (WA CD-1) is our 4th key targeted House race.  Koster is in a dead heat with Suzan DelBene. Koster has been endorsed by the Northwest Motorcycle Association.   On the other side of the campaign trail, DelBene proudly lists endorsements from the League of Conservation Voters and the Sierra Club.
Here is our list of TPAC’s targeted key races as of September 28, 2012
U.S. Senate
Tommy Thompson (WI-Senate)
Dean Heller (NV – Senate)
Denny Rehberg (MT-Senate)
George Allen (VA- Senate)
Jeff Flake (AZ – Senate)
Heather Wilson (NM-Senate)
Rick Berg (ND-Senate)

U.S. House of Representatives
John Koster (WA CD-1)
Dan Lungren (CA CD-7)
Chip Cravaack (MN CD-8)
Ricky Gill (CA CD-9)

After talking with a pro-access Latino political leader in New Mexico yesterday, TPAC is also sending additional support today to Heather Wilson for Senate. TPAC believes this is one of the most critical senate races in the country.  It pits a pro-access candidate against a political colleague of Dave Foreman, Founder of Earth First!
TPAC is counting on your continued support and new support from trail interests who have never really been engaged the never ending political struggle to preserve and protect responsible recreational access to public lands.
Donate $10 - $5000 dollars if you want to be part of TPAC’s national strategy to elect a pro-trail majority to the U.S. Senate and keep our pro-access majority in the House.
Hey TPAC, I want to do my part with this donation

TPAC is encouraging you to stay strong and don’t let the current “polling debate” discourage you from fighting for your access rights via the political process.
Yours for more trail access,

Trail PAC Names Chip Cravaack for Congress as 2nd Key Race

NEWS RELEASE

Date: September 19, 2012

TRAIL USERS NAME CHIP CRAVAACK FOR CONGRESS  AS A TARGETED KEY RACE

North Bethesda, MD – Today, the Trail PAC is proud to name, Chip Cravaack for Congress, as its 2nd targeted key House race in the 2012 election.  TPAC was founded as the first national non-partisan political action committee dedicated solely to championing responsible off-highway vehicle recreation on designated roads, trails, and areas on public lands through the electoral process.

Trail voters believe Chip is in a very tight race with his opponent, Rick Nolan.    Nolan is supported by the far left CREDO SuperPAC. The CREDO SuperPAC was founded by mobile-phone executives in the San Francisco area to advance liberal causes.   Several CREDO SuperPAC board members also work with hard-core environmental groups such as the Sierra Club and League of Conservation Voters.

Don Amador, Founder of TPAC, states, “Two years ago, the political world was rocked by a massive earthquake on Election Day 2010 when Chip ousted 18-term congressman, Jim Oberstar.   A lot of my trail and snowmobile friends in MN CD-8 worked hard for Chip and he has been working hard for them during his 1st term in Congress.”

“Trail users nationwide need Chip back on The Hill to support House majority efforts to champion responsible trail access to public lands and to oppose the ever growing regulatory agenda of the EPA,” Amador concludes.

Wilderness Groups Target Heather Wilson in New Mexico

As the political parties gear up for their national conventions, TPAC wants to bring you some of the latest news as it relates to our efforts to elect a pro-trail majority to the U.S. Senate.

According to recent reports by Politico and the Washington Post,   there are five major anti-trail organizations now targeting Heather Wilson in NM  -- one of TPAC’s key senate candidates – for elimination.  Those groups include the League of Conservation Voters, the Sierra Club, Defenders of Wildlife, the National Wildlife Federation, and the Natural Resources Defense Council Action Fund.

Sources claim the groups intend to spend massive sums over the next few months smearing Heather Wilson and promoting their own candidate, Martin Heinrich.  Heinrich is also a board member of the New Mexico Wilderness Alliance.  That group has a long history of opposing responsible OHV recreation on public lands.

TPAC is asking you to help us continue  our fight to defend and support pro-trail candidates like George Allen (VA),  Dean Heller (NV),  Denny Rehberg (MT),  Jeff Flake (AZ), and Heather Wilson (NM) against attacks from determined anti-OHV groups.   These are must wins to switch the Senate power structure!

Greens Blister Access Candidates

TPAC wants to send this short update on the presidential race regarding the recent attacks on Governor Romney by one of the most active anti-OHV groups in the country and that organization is the Public Employees for Environmental Responsibility (PEER).

PEER’s “OHV Policy” lead is Karen Schambach.  She has been the green’s point person on a majority of the anti-OHV lawsuits filed in the West included a lawsuit PEER filed to close the Carnegie State OHV Park in the S.F. Bay Area (a suit  they just lost and had to pay their own $500 thousand dollar legal debt).  Schambach was also the driving force behind the California legislature’s plan to gut the state’s user-pay/user benefit OHV program.

TPAC is warning you and our candidates that this will be an extremely ugly political season where far-left green groups will blister and smear pro-trail candidates with such names as “Member of the Dirty Dozen” or “Eco-thug” like they did to former Congressman Richard Pombo, Chairman of the House Natural Resources Committee.

TPAC hopes you will get out on the trail this summer with your family and enjoy the access to public lands that we are fighting for through the election process.

Donate $25, $50, $100, $200, $500 today to help us defend our candidates against the green smear machine

Happy Trails,

GREENS TARGET SUPER TUESDAY SENATE RACE

When Senator George Allen was in prior office (109th Congress), he was listed as a “Champion of Private Property Rights” by the League of Private Property Voters (LPPV).  LPPV is an organization that promotes public access and multiple-use of federal lands.

During that same time-period, then Governor Tim Kaine (Allen’s rival for the open VA senate seat on November 6) filed a petition with the federal government for them to set aside almost 25% of scarce Forest Service lands as “Clinton-era Roadless Areas.”  Those 400,000 acres would be locked-up in the George Washington and Jefferson National Forests.

The Trail PAC will be supporting the George Allen for Senate campaign in this election as one of our key targeted senate races.  Allen will need our support because the League of Conservation Voters (LCV) has targeted him for defeat.  As you know, LCV has a voting review committee comprised of hard-core anti-OHV groups including the Earthjustice Legal Defense Fund and The Wilderness Society.

TPAC believes this election is critical for trail voters and is committed to helping ensure the trail community is effectively engaged and represented in the election process.

Please DONATE ($5, $10, $25, $50, $100, $250, $500, or more) today!

ACCESS DENIED TO PUBLIC LANDS

As you know, trail advocates are fighting against a stacked deck when it comes to public land access battles.  Carl Adams spent over one year shooting his new land use documentary – Access Denied.  He chronicles how federal agencies use laws and regulations to close historic roads and trails to public use.  We need Congress to change those laws!

Access Denied is a must watch video if you are concerned about continued trail use on federal lands.  The film also shows why it is important for YOU to become engaged in the political process. TPAC believes the only way that OHV recreation can change the current closure agenda of anti-trail bureaucrats, activist courts, and green politicians is to elect pro-trail legislators such as Senator Dean Heller (NV), Denny Rehberg (MT), and Jeff Flake (AZ) to the U.S. Senate.

Access Denied Video (please share with your friends)

With your help, TPAC believes there is a real opportunity this election cycle for us to elect a pro-trail majority in the U.S. Senate.   However, we can’t do it without your help and support.

Please donate $5, $25, $50, $100, $250 or $500 to help us elect a trail friendly Congress in 2012.

Thanks,

Don

Trail PAC Opinion - State of Disunion

TPAC OPINION - State of DisUnion

The Trail PAC believes this country's trail-based recreation programs are in a current State of Disunion. According to information from the Competitive Enterprise Institute, the Obama administration has promulgated over 800 new major regulations (regulations that have a $100 million dollar or more economic impact). That compares to about 160 such regulations issued during the Bush era.

New rules or regulations (NEPA, ESA, EPA, etc.) related to OHV use on public lands continue to encourage and reward extreme environmental groups to sue land agencies if motorized events are not banned and/or if not enough trails and roads are closed during travel management planning processes.

TPAC is encouraged by House pro-trail legislation and hearings that seek to address the closure agenda of federal bureaucrats and to block the taxpayer funding of environmental lawsuits. However, an anti-trail majority in the Senate chamber is blocking those companion efforts.

TPAC believes the OHV community should work hard to change that dynamic in the Senate by supporting the campaigns of pro-trail candidates.

TRAIL VOTER ROUNDUP - 100 More to Even the Score

Watch for Count Updates Each Day

Dear Trail Voter,

The Trail Political Action Committee is launching its national Trail Voter Roundup – 100 More to Even the Score  campaign today.  This effort will run from January 16 through the 20th.  TPAC has a goal this week to get another 100 people to support our effort to elect pro-access candidates to Congress.

During our December “Don’t Lock Me Out” Moneybomb almost 100 people from across this country made a donation.  While the pro-trail majority in the House of Representatives has worked hard on our behalf, the anti-access majority in the U.S. Senate has stymied efforts by pro-access Senators to hold regulators and land-agencies accountable on issues such as Forest Service Travel Management, Presidential National Monument Designations, OHV event cost-recovery reform, and taxpayer-funded environmental lawsuits.

TPAC needs your support so we can help elect pro-trail senate candidates in key states such as Nevada, Utah, Montana, Arizona, Michigan, Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Virginia.

To help us swing the U.S. Senate in 2012 to a pro-trail majority, send this ACTION ALERT to a friend and encourage them to become part of the solution.  Tell them their $10, $15, and $20 dollar donations are just as important as larger donations.

To Donate $10, $15, $20, $50, $100, $250, $500, $1,000 or more to TPAC click link below:

Thanks for your support of TPAC’s effort to get the OHV voter engaged in the federal election process.

Best regards,

Don

2012 Congressional Questionnaire Update

Dear OHV Voter,

TPAC is sending out OHV-specific questionnaires to Congressional
races.  As you know, questionnaires are a popular analytical tool
used by PACs to decide which candidate is best on their issues.  It is also
used by PACs to decide where to send those important campaign donations.

As TPAC gets ready to send out its first questionnaires, it wants to know
which OHV issue areas are most important to the motorized community.
TPAC asks that you review the list below to help make sure the most critical OHV-related federal land use issues are covered in the 2012 elections.
Please email TPAC at info@thetrailpac.com if there are additional issues that you would like placed in the questionnaire.

OHV Use in General
Roadless Areas
Special Recreation Permits
Travel Management Rule
EPA/ESA
EAJA Reform
National Monument Designations Created by Executive Orders

Update on Interior's Effort to Scrub OHV Recreation in Outdoor Initiative

The Trail PAC wants to remind off-road voters that their involvement in the 2012 election cycle will be of critical importance.  Many of you are aware of America’s Great Outdoors Presidential Initiative and its ongoing efforts to scrub OHV recreation from any of its reports or narratives.

Nov. 4 TPAC Blog on OHV Scrubbed in AGOP Report

It will be TPAC’s job in this election to remind politicians running for elected federal office that OHV recreation is a major and important element in the public land-use equation as highlighted in the Nov. 28 article on OHV recreation on BLM units in Southern California.

Nov. 28 Imperial Valley Press Article on 142,000 users visiting the dunes during Thanksgiving

With your support and donations, TPAC will ferret out (and support) those candidates who understand and appreciate motorized recreation and access to public lands.

Best regards,

Don

TPAC Pro-Trail Questionnaires in the 2012 Election

The decision of what candidate to support during the 2012 election cycle can often be complex and difficult to make.  One of the tools that political action committees utilize is the Questionnaire.

The Trail PAC has linked to an anti-trail PAC’s questionnaire that was filled out by then presidential candidate, Barack Obama.   The League of Conservation Voters which is one of the major green PACs asked Obama about his position on off-highway vehicle and over-the-snow vehicle use in National Parks.  As you know, there are many national park units that allow for motorized use during the appropriate season.

Article/Post of LCV Questionnaire to Obama with his position against OHV use

As TPAC grows and prepares for the 2012 election cycle, it too plans to utilize questionnaires to help it decide who the best pro-trail candidate is in various House and Senate races.  The respective candidates for President in the general election will also get a questionnaire.

As always, your support is needed to help TPAC engage the anti-trail PACs and defeat the candidates and positions they promote.

Happy Trails!

Anti-OHV Government Reports Make Best Argument for the Trail PAC

The Trail Political Action Committee (TPAC) wanted to comment on the recent publication by the Department of Interior (DOI) of its final 50 State Report on Conservation and Outdoor Recreation.

This is the last in a series of reports and studies by DOI as part of President Obama’s America’s Great Outdoors Initiative (AGO).  As many of you know, OHV recreation was purposely ignored for political purposes by proponents of AGO. OHV was willfully scrubbed on all AGO-related videos, reports, and other publications.

Our motto at TPAC is All Trail Decisions are Political Decisions.  By scrubbing OHV recreation from the AGO program, anti-motorized trail advocates have made the best argument for why OHVers (that means YOU) must get involved in the election process.

TPAC is working hard on your behalf to build its resources so it can challenge anti-OHV PACs such as the League of Conservation Voters.   Pro-trail candidates running for federal office will no longer have to ask where is the OHV community when I need them most.  With your donations, TPAC will be there to support those pro-trail candidates in tough election fights.

Watch for more commentary, action items, and media outreach from TPAC as we enter the 2012 election cycle.
