"All trail-access decisions are political decisions"

The Trail Political Action Committee (TPAC) was founded as the first national non-partisan political action committee dedicated solely to championing responsible off-highway vehicle recreation on designated roads, trails, and areas on public lands through the electoral and legislative processes.
*
The TPAC tactical goal is to target key races using state-of-the art real-time analysis where there is a tough election and the pro-access candidate needs some extra support to help to defeat their opponent.
*
TPAC is needed to counter the anti-access special interests in Washington DC who have long ago figured that contributing to closure-oriented politicians is how they will accomplish their goal of restricting OHV access on federal lands.
*
TPAC is ready to stand in that political breach to stop the flow of anti-access politicians into the Capital. TPAC will work hard to reverse that trend so that pro-access legislators will exist as the majority in Congress and the White House.

Don't Sit at the Trailhead in the 2012 Elections

As the country approaches Super Tuesday on March 6, TPAC believes it is time for those trail-voters who have not yet supported TPAC – to step up to the plate and make a difference today.  Many of you have already donated and we THANK YOU for that!  However, some are still sitting at the trailhead waiting to join our “2012 Election Trail Ride.”

Craig Manson, the former Assistant Secretary for Fish, Wildlife, and Parks in the U.S. Department of the Interior who has endorsed TPAC said, “As one who has served as a land management executive policymaker at the highest levels of federal and state governments, I can’t stress enough the importance of recreation interests to get involved in the political process.”

“Federal resource departments must carry out the land-use directives from the White House while answering to Congress that creates laws, has budget authority, and oversight responsibilities. It is critically important for recreational interests to support those politicians who champion a responsible land-ethic that includes managed OHV use on public lands,”
Manson concludes.
If you agree with Craig Manson, please make a donation today and help TPAC elect pro-trail candidates in the 2012 election cycle.
Donate $25, $50, $100, $250, $500, or $1,000 dollars today at:

House OHV-Related EPA Reform Stalled In Senate

Last year, the House of Representatives voted to pass H.R. 1633 in an effort to exempt OHV users from EPA's potential new "nuisance dust" regulations. Unfortunately, the anti-trail majority in the U.S. Senate has failed to act on its version - S. 1528.  TPAC believes any EPA reform in the Senate is DOA in 2012.

Idaho Recreation Council/AMA Alert on EPA Dust

TPAC wanted to bring this issue to your attention as an example of why we are focusing our efforts this election cycle on support for pro-trail and pro-EPA reform candidates in the U.S. Senate. To support TPAC’s effort this year on your behalf, please consider a donation today.

ACCESS DENIED TO PUBLIC LANDS

As you know, trail advocates are fighting against a stacked deck when it comes to public land access battles.  Carl Adams spent over one year shooting his new land use documentary – Access Denied.  He chronicles how federal agencies use laws and regulations to close historic roads and trails to public use.  We need Congress to change those laws!

Access Denied is a must watch video if you are concerned about continued trail use on federal lands.  The film also shows why it is important for YOU to become engaged in the political process. TPAC believes the only way that OHV recreation can change the current closure agenda of anti-trail bureaucrats, activist courts, and green politicians is to elect pro-trail legislators such as Senator Dean Heller (NV), Denny Rehberg (MT), and Jeff Flake (AZ) to the U.S. Senate.

Access Denied Video (please share with your friends)

With your help, TPAC believes there is a real opportunity this election cycle for us to elect a pro-trail majority in the U.S. Senate.   However, we can’t do it without your help and support.

Please donate $5, $25, $50, $100, $250 or $500 to help us elect a trail friendly Congress in 2012.

Thanks,

Don

Trail Access & the MN Senate Race

Dear Trail Voter,

*Note: New Email Signup on Rt. Side of Blog

After the Nevada caucuses, TPAC is directing its attention to the Minnesota caucuses being held on February 7, 2012. TPAC believes the Minnesota senate race is one of the key senate races on a national level. The election of a pro-trail senator on November 6 in MN could help install a pro-trail majority in the U.S. Senate where a number of pro-access House bills are stalled.

TPAC is using voter guides from several organizations. The League of Private Property Voters (LPPV) supports private property rights and multiple-use of public lands. The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) has a voting review committee comprised of hard-core anti-OHV groups including the Earthjustice Legal Defense Fund and The Wilderness Society. The score indicates a candidate's support for each organization's platform.

LPPV - 110th Congressional Scorecard - A high score here is a good thing!

Amy Klobuchar (D) - 40%
Norm Coleman (R) - 90% (this example is for comparison)

LCV - 111th Congressional Scorecard - A high score here from anti-access groups is not good!

Amy Klobuchar(D) - 94%
Al Franken (D)- 92% (this example is for comparison)

TPAC believes this election is critical for trail voters and is committed to helping ensure the trail community is effectively engaged in the election process.

Please consider a small ($5, $10, $25) or large ($50, $100, $250, $500, or more) donation
