"All trail-access decisions are political decisions"

The Trail Political Action Committee (TPAC) was founded as the first national non-partisan political action committee dedicated solely to championing responsible off-highway vehicle recreation on designated roads, trails, and areas on public lands through the electoral and legislative processes.
*
The TPAC tactical goal is to target key races using state-of-the art real-time analysis where there is a tough election and the pro-access candidate needs some extra support to help to defeat their opponent.
*
TPAC is needed to counter the anti-access special interests in Washington DC who have long ago figured that contributing to closure-oriented politicians is how they will accomplish their goal of restricting OHV access on federal lands.
*
TPAC is ready to stand in that political breach to stop the flow of anti-access politicians into the Capital. TPAC will work hard to reverse that trend so that pro-access legislators will exist as the majority in Congress and the White House.

OHV "Dust" a Political Issue in NV?

As you know, TPAC is focused like a laser in 2012 to help elect a pro-trail and pro-EPA/regulatory reform majority to the U.S. Senate.  The ongoing “dust” issue at the Nellis Dunes Recreation Area in Nevada makes the election of pro-access candidates in that state and other regions of critical importance in this election cycle.

BLM Dust Study/OHV Impacts at Nellis Dunes Recreation Area

Excessive overregulation of recreational activity throughout this country has resulted in the closure of thousands of miles of public access routes.  That threat will only get worse unless you act.

With your help, TPAC will work hard to elect pro-trail candidates to Congress with a particular focus on the Nevada senate race and 7-8 other key senate races.

Trail PAC Opinion - State of Disunion

TPAC OPINION - State of DisUnion

The Trail PAC believes this country's trail-based recreation programs are in a current State of Disunion. According to information from the Competitive Enterprise Institute, the Obama administration has promulgated over 800 new major regulations (regulations that have a $100 million dollar or more economic impact). That compares to about 160 such regulations issued during the Bush era.

New rules or regulations (NEPA, ESA, EPA, etc.) related to OHV use on public lands continue to encourage and reward extreme environmental groups to sue land agencies if motorized events are not banned and/or if not enough trails and roads are closed during travel management planning processes.

TPAC is encouraged by House pro-trail legislation and hearings that seek to address the closure agenda of federal bureaucrats and to block the taxpayer funding of environmental lawsuits. However, an anti-trail majority in the Senate chamber is blocking those companion efforts.

TPAC believes the OHV community should work hard to change that dynamic in the Senate by supporting the campaigns of pro-trail candidates.

TRAIL PAC - OHV Federal Legislative Alert

OHV legislative analyst, John Stewart, has posted an important update for The Trail PAC so public land access groups can review the large number of bills that either directly or indirectly impact our recreational use on federal lands.  Stewart also has an email sign up for users who want to get on the TPAC email alert list.

Stewart/4x4Wire Legislative Update

TPAC believes the OHV community has a real opportunity to help elect pro-trail candidates to the U.S Senate and the House of Representatives.

Be sure and use the TPAC email signup button in Stewart’s alert, as TPAC will be switching over to another email delivery system in the near future.

TRAIL VOTER ROUNDUP - 100 More to Even the Score

Watch for Count Updates Each Day

Dear Trail Voter,

The Trail Political Action Committee is launching its national Trail Voter Roundup – 100 More to Even the Score  campaign today.  This effort will run from January 16 through the 20th.  TPAC has a goal this week to get another 100 people to support our effort to elect pro-access candidates to Congress.

During our December “Don’t Lock Me Out” Moneybomb almost 100 people from across this country made a donation.  While the pro-trail majority in the House of Representatives has worked hard on our behalf, the anti-access majority in the U.S. Senate has stymied efforts by pro-access Senators to hold regulators and land-agencies accountable on issues such as Forest Service Travel Management, Presidential National Monument Designations, OHV event cost-recovery reform, and taxpayer-funded environmental lawsuits.

TPAC needs your support so we can help elect pro-trail senate candidates in key states such as Nevada, Utah, Montana, Arizona, Michigan, Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Virginia.

To help us swing the U.S. Senate in 2012 to a pro-trail majority, send this ACTION ALERT to a friend and encourage them to become part of the solution.  Tell them their $10, $15, and $20 dollar donations are just as important as larger donations.

To Donate $10, $15, $20, $50, $100, $250, $500, $1,000 or more to TPAC click link below:

Thanks for your support of TPAC’s effort to get the OHV voter engaged in the federal election process.

Best regards,

Don

TRAIL PAC BREAKING NEWS - Pro-Trail Congressman Herger Retires from the House

The Trail PAC has breaking news that Congressman Wally Herger will not be seeking another term in Congress.  As many of you know, Herger has been a champion for responsible OHV recreational use of public lands.

According to FLASHREPORT, Herger will be endorsing State Senator Doug LaMalfa in a run for his House seat.

FLASHREPORT on Herger Announcement

LaMalfa has also been a strong supporter of responsible OHV recreation. Based on LaMalfa’s history in the state legislature, TPAC believes that he also will be a pro-trail champion in the House of Representatives.  This will most certainly be an important race to watch.

Sage-Grouse Becomes Political Issue in 2012 Elections

By now, many trail voters are aware of the Obama Administration’s Greater Sage-Grouse planning effort that has started in a number of Western States.  The Trail PAC has been reviewing this issue since mid December 2011.

As the article states below, multiple-use of public lands including recreational access is at risk.

Jan. 9 - Article on Sage-Grouse Planning and Potential Impacts

TPAC believes the 2012 election cycle is critically important to trail voters since it will be those elected federal officials -- with oversight and appointment/confirmation responsibility of unelected regulators -- who make the ultimate decision on how many public land users will be impacted by Sage-Grouse related closures.

To help TPAC elect pro-access candidates, please donate today!

MT Senate Race - OHV Recreation on Front Burner

The Trail PAC’s motto is “All trail decisions are political decisions” and there is no race in the country that illustrates that more then the Tester (D) v. Rehberg (R) contest for the U.S. Senate.  As articulated in the following article, Tester has proposed a comprehensive Wilderness, Recreation, and Timber Bill that is supposed to have substantive pluses for all those interest groups.  Rehberg has blocked the bill in the House because at the end of the day it has little or no OHV recreation components.

Article on Tester v. Rehberg Wilderness Fight

As some of you know, this is one of TPAC’s key targeted senate races for the 2012 election cycle.  Today, TPAC sent each campaign our official 2012 Congressional OHV Recreation and Access Questionnaire.  TPAC will inform voters about each candidate’s position on important OHV recreation issues once those questionnaires are returned.

2012 Congressional Questionnaire Update

Dear OHV Voter,

TPAC is sending out OHV-specific questionnaires to Congressional
races.  As you know, questionnaires are a popular analytical tool
used by PACs to decide which candidate is best on their issues.  It is also
used by PACs to decide where to send those important campaign donations.

As TPAC gets ready to send out its first questionnaires, it wants to know
which OHV issue areas are most important to the motorized community.
TPAC asks that you review the list below to help make sure the most critical OHV-related federal land use issues are covered in the 2012 elections.
Please email TPAC at info@thetrailpac.com if there are additional issues that you would like placed in the questionnaire.

OHV Use in General
Roadless Areas
Special Recreation Permits
Travel Management Rule
EPA/ESA
EAJA Reform
National Monument Designations Created by Executive Orders
